Bernie cannot wait until the spring. He plans to go home. Cold there now, he has reason to go back. Four Children and five Grandchildren await him. His eyes light up as he speaks of them. Though he has never seen his grandchildren, he recites to me each of their birthdays proudly. It’s been a while since he has seen his children. Though he tries to keep in touch, his last contact with them was at Thanksgiving, via phone. After that, his phone was stolen along with other personal items.
He is grateful to be alive today. His girlfriend of 16 years had just recently passed away after being hit by a car. He cared for her for the past two years.
It’s beginning to rain.
He wants shelter.
