It is morning of a brand new year. The streets of Skid Row are no different from they were just yesterday. The battle of life continues.
I see a man sitting alone on the corner. He is sitting in a makeshift chair and gazing to the sunny sky. I pull up next to him and our eyes meet. He intrigues me with a welcoming smile.
This man from Houston, Texas shares his joy of the new year with me. “I enjoyed my New Years..sure did”. 2104 went be…”medium” he tells me and thinks that 2015 “will go by real good”.
Gratitude is evident. “The good breakfast I had today, and feeling better make today, an O.K. day. I have a lot to be grateful for”. “try to see the good things, not just the bad things” he encourages us to look at.
He shares with me that it can get pretty bad out here, especially when it is cold. He brushed that notion aside as for today, his health continues to improve, and for that he is most grateful. “I’m getting well the doctors say, and that I am improving. I am getting better every single day”.
